Status update

The tensions over here are growing because we are really pushing hard to get the shipments out.

One batch of casings has arrived, but at the moment electronics lag behind.

Just to give you an idea on how dramatically schedules have changed during the corona outbreak.

Before the usual PCB board manufacturing time was between 10 to 14 days (depending of the size and quantity ofc). At the moment the delivery time changed to 25 working days which is hard to get used to.

Mostly it is related to missing labor, which gradually is improving now.

We think and hope that by the end of March the outbreak in China will be under control and measures taken should ease. We do not really know what will happen, but for sure after March a large amount of people will be able to return.

What happens while you wait....

Quite some of you have been watching the Youtube review from Novaspirit about the Quad Sata Kit.

We did read your comments there and used the time to do some improvements. Because the case is very compact, the airflow is an important factor to keep the temperature under control.

To improve, we are adding openings to the bottom plate which increases the air flow and also has a positive impact on the noise level.

We returned all the base plates of this batch to the factory. They are expected to return them within the next two days which means all of the shipments will already have the improvements done.

Since a few of the copper bolts broke when we shipped the first batch, we decided to pre-assemble them on the base plate to avoid this to happen. We also did re-tap the threads after the painting process to make assembly easier.

We as well will update product pictures of the Quad Sata NAS kit, because some of you asked for more details. You should find them next to the product description soon.

Stay tuned!

@ STEFAN yes, you are right. There are no 5TB 2.5" HDD´s other than the 15mm thick drives. We can mount max. 1x 15mm drive together with e.g. 3x 9,5mm drives inside the case. Here you can find an image with different 2.5" drives next to each other. (5mm is a SSD) https://cdn.shopify.cn/s/files/1/0021/1497/7894/files/HDD_types_Quad_sata_kit.jpg?v=1586339911

I have a question about the QUAD SATA KIT for Raspberry PI: Is it possible to use it with four 5TB 2.5 Inch HDDs? As far as I can tell the answer is no, since there are no 5TB 9.5mm HDDs. Can you comment on that?

@ ALL – you will be happy to hear that we started our second shipment round today. The goods will be sent out within the next two days. The next part of this batch will be rolled out in around two weeks from now. We will start to ship out HAT only products to our very patient customers at the end of this week. We will push this information via the mailing channel and a blog entry.
@ ESKIMO – we did consider making holes for all LEDs on the raspberry as well as the SATA hat. We did not do it for a simple reason – it would lighten up the case like a Christmas tree and probably frustrate not only your wifes. ;-) This case was considered to be put into a book shelf or next to you on your desk. having all these LED´s flashing around would probably more distract but inform. We don´t say we will not do it in the future, we only had a slightly different approach.
During the setup, we never put the cover on – every status LED is visible. The red power LED of the Raspi4 can be seen from the top even the case is closed.
During operation, when the case is closed the OLED display provides frequently updated status information without bothering the user. Most important details about the HDDs are indicated on the backside with blue and red LEDs for power, activity and failure of a drive.
We will continue to improve and upgrade performance, usability and style of our products and are thankful for every input we get from you!

Any chance we get an update on this product’s timeline / production developments soon?

while further waits occur, may i suggest another improvement to the NAS enclosure?

I noticed that the Pi4 status LEDs are hidden in the enclosure.. i think two holes should be drilled into the external enclosure so that we are able to see the Pi’s status LEDs.
